COBLESKILL MEN’S TENNIS POSTS ROAD WIN OVER HOLYOKE CC 6-3
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s tennis team continued their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon traveling to Holyoke, MA to defeat the Cougars of Holyoke Community College by a 6-3 margin. The victory improves the Fighting Tiger overall record to 4-0 on the season.
Once again the Orange & Black followed their blueprint for success taking the singles portion of the competition by winning four matches then taking two of three doubles matches to secure the win. Spearheading the Cobleskill attack was the dynamic duo of senior captain Greg Klopfer, Voorheesville, NY, Voorheesville High School, who soundly won at the number three singles spot by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 and freshman Zak Kraehmer, Wallkill, NY, Wallkill High School, who posted a hard fought win at the number four singles spot by scores of 7-6(7-4) and 6-1. The pair then took the number two singles position in straight sets by scores of 6-4 and 7-5 to remain unbeaten in doubles play this season.
Senior Andy Crane, Exeter, ME, Dexter Regional High School, was victorious at the number five singles spot by scores of 6-3 and 6-0 then teamed with freshman Devon Hoffman, Utica, NY, Thomas R. Proctor High School, to win at third doubles by scores of 6-4 and 7-5. Freshman Justin Lupien, Voorheesville, NY, Voorheesville High School, made his first start of the year at the number six singles slot and battled his way to a straight set victory by margins of 6-4 and 7-5.
“We had to go to Devon Hoffman and Justin Lupien today in the starting line-up and they answered the challenge by stepping up big-time today,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Scott Hill. “Looking at the match scores, you can see that we had to battle them for every point and that things were tight all afternoon. I was pleased with the way that we maintained our poise and focus today and the way that we are coming together as a unit.”
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to Utica, NY on Thursday April 17th for a non-conference match-up with Mohawk Valley Community College beginning at 4:00 PM. |
