FIGHTING TIGER DOUBLE UP HOLYOKE CC 5-4 IN MEN’S TENNIS
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s tennis team broke into the win column snapping a four game losing streak defeating visiting Holyoke Community College by a 5-4 margin in Cobleskill yesterday. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move their overall record to 1-4 on the season.
“It feels good to get a win; we’ve lost a couple of close matches so hopefully we can build off this, and finish the season strong,” said Fighting Tiger first-year Head Coach John Tassone. “I was extremely very happy with our doubles play today. We’ve shown a lot of improvement in that area the last few weeks and our guys are really catching on.”
The Fighting Tigers split the singles portion of the match capturing three of six matches with victories from senior Matt Fagan, Schoharie, NY, Schoharie High School, winning at number three singles by scores of 6-2, 2-6 and 6-2 and senior Bryce Gibson, Dundee, NY, Dundee Central High School, taking the number four doubles by scores of 6-4, 2-6 and 6-4. Senior Sam Etter, Liberty, NY, Liberty High School, swept the number six singles by margins of 7-6 and 6-0 to earn Cobleskill the split.
Cobleskill then took two of the three doubles matches to secure the victory with Brice Gibson and freshman Derrick Peaster, Downsville, NY, Downsville Central High School, taking the number two doubles by scores of 6-4 and 6-3 and Sam Etter and freshman Jay Crosser, Mattydale, NY, Cicero-North Syracuse High School, winning at the number three doubles spot by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
The Fighting Tigers will get little rest after their victory as they will host Mountain Valley Conference rival Mohawk Valley Community College on today at 4:00 PM at the Cobleskill Tennis Complex. |
