FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN RUN AT 2008 ALL-AMERICAN INVITATIONAL
With the spring weather turning warm, the SUNY Cobleskill women’s track & field team continued to be hot through the 2008 season as the Fighting Tigers posted nine NJCAA Division III National Championship Qualifying Standard meeting efforts at the All-American Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, NY on Saturday. The Orange & Black had entered the meet ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
It was the distance corps that led the way for the Fighting Tigers as senior NJCAA All-American April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, met the national qualifying mark in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase finishing fifth in a time of 12:33.92 as did teammates freshman Alex Devine, Cherry Plains, NY, Berlin High School, who finished seventh overall in 13:58.67 and freshman Beth Tranes, Goshen, NY, Goshen High School, who placed eighth with a time of 14:19.68. The Cobleskill also received qualifying efforts at 5000 Meters from freshman Meghan Newton, Torrington, CT, Wamogo High School, who placed fifth overall in a time of 21:27.87 and from freshman Meghan LaPoint, Schenectady, NY, Colonie High School, who placed seventh in 22:11.12.
In the sprint events, senior NJCAA All-American Regina Morgan, Brooklyn, NY, Prospect Heights High School, met the national marks in the 200 Meters placing eighth with a time of 28.02 seconds and the 400 Meters finishing sixth overall in a time of 1:05.54. Freshman Tamarra Jenkins, Queens, NY, Jamaica High School, also met the national mark at 400 Meters placing eighth overall in 1:06.63 while freshman hurdler Megan Donohue, Colonie, NY, Colonie High School, qualified in the 400 Meter Hurdles finishing tenth with a time of 1:15.93.
The Fighting Tigers will next send selected team members to the 2008 NJCAA Region III Division III Multi-Events Championships hosted by Alfred State College in Alfred, NY on Sunday April 20th and Monday April 21st. |
