FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN COMPETE AT 2008 CAPITAL DISTRICT CLASSIC
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s outdoor track & field team continued their outstanding season at the 2008 Capital District Classic hosted by Union College in Schenectady, NY on Saturday. The Fighting Tigers posted 12 NJCAA Division III National Championship qualifying performances on the afternoon.
Leading the way for the Fighting Tigers was senior NJCAA All-American Jennifer Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, who won the Long Jump meeting the national standard with an effort of 16’9 ¾”. Senior NJCAA All-American distance runner April Ackemann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, was also a major factor in the team’s success posting national qualifying performances in the 1500 Meters finishing seventh overall with a time of 5:08.47 and the 800 Meters placing eighth with a time of 2:34. Senior NJCAA All-American sprinter/jumper Regina Morgan, Brooklyn, NY, Prospect Heights High School, was also productive adding the 400 Meter Hurdles to her nationally qualified events with a time of 1:19.42.
Freshman multi-event performer Brittany Armstrong, Schenectady, NY, Mohonasen High School, posted a pair of national qualifying performances in the jumps finishing fifth overall in the Long Jump with a mark of 14’10 ½” to go with a fifth place finish in the Triple Jump with an effort of 31’1”. Cobleskill also received individual qualifying efforts from: freshman hurdler Megan Donahue, Colonie, NY, Colonie High School, who placed eighth in the 100 Meter Hurdles in 19.37 seconds, freshman distance runner Beth Tranes, Goshen, NY, Goshen High School, in the 1500 Meters with a time of 5:31.12, freshman distance runner Alex Devine, Cherry Plains, NY, Berlin High School, in the 1500 Meters with a time of 5:34.68 and from freshman distance runner Meghan Newton, Torrington, CT, Wamogo High School, who finished twelfth in the 5000 Meters in 21:44.42.
The Fighting Tiger 4 X 100 Meter Relay Team of Jennifer Villanova, Brittany Armstrong, Regina Morgan and freshman Tamarra Jenkins, Queens, NY, Jamaica High School, also met the national qualifying mark finishing fourth in the event with a time of 53.56 seconds.
Cobleskill will next be in action at the 2008 NJCAA Region III Division III Championships hosted by Alfred State College in Alfred, NY, on Friday May 2nd and Saturday May 3rd. |
