COBLESKILL TRACK & FIELD COMPETES AT 2007 REGION III CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill track & field program spent the weekend competing at the 2007 NJCAA Region III Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY. The Fighting Tiger women posted a team score of 86 points to place fourth at in the meet while the Cobleskill men scored 47 points to finish in fifth place overall.
Individually the Fighting Tiger women captured three individual championships at the meet as freshman multi-event athlete Jennifer Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School won the Triple Jump with an effort of 10.01 meters, and the Long Jump, with a mark of 5.14 meters and senior multi-event athlete Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, won the regional Heptathlon title with a score of 2982 points. Villanova and O’Rourke also teamed with freshman Regina Morgan, Brooklyn, NY, Prospect Heights High School, and senior Teresa Cox, Bellport, NY, Bellport High School, to win the regional championship in the 4 X 100 Meter Relay with a time of 52.8 seconds. All were named to the 2007 All-NJCAA Region III Team for their accomplishments.
The talented quartet of competitors also added a number of other scoring efforts for the Fighting Tigers on the afternoon as Villanova placed second in the Pole Vault clearing a height of 2.42 meters and fifth in the 400 Meters in a time of 1:08.9 with O’Rourke finishing third in the 100 Meter Hurdles with at time of 18.6 seconds. Teresa Cox placed third in the 400 Meter Hurdles in a time of 1:17.9 and Morgan brought home a sixth place finish in the Triple Jump with a mark of 9.16 meters.
Also scoring in the meet for Cobleskill were senior thrower Beth Conte, Herkimer, NY, Herkimer High School, who placed third in the Hammer Throw with an effort of 34.29 meters and freshman multi-event athlete Kayla Evers, Oneonta, NY, Lighthouse Academy, who placed third in the Pole Vault clearing a height of 1.67 meters and fifth in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 29.02 meters.
The Fighting Tiger men received a championship effort from freshman middle distance runner Eric Graber, Troy, NY, Lansingburgh High School, who won the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.3 to earn All-NJCAA Region III Team honors in the event.
Cobleskill also received strong showings from: senior NJCAA All-American distance runner Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, who was second in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 10:15.0, freshman jumper Kevin Amilcar, White Plains, NY, White Plains High School, who was second in the Long Jump with a mark 6.37 meters and from senior Kyle Robinson, Canastota, NY, Canastota High School, who finished second in the Hammer Throw at 45.34 meters and fifth in the Shot Put at 12.15 meters. Senior distance runner Brandon Gillis, Hudson, NY, Hudson High School, placed sixth in the 1500 Meters with a time of 4:29.5 and senior sprinter/hurler Jon Bates, Bronx, NY, Walton High School, finished sixth in the 400 Meters in a time of 53.3 seconds and sixth in the 400 Meter Hurdles in 1:01.7.
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to Montgomery Community College in Columbia, MD for the 2007 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships to be held from Thursday May 10th thru Saturday May 12th.
