FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S TRACK & FIELD TIES FOR 10TH AT NJCAA NATIONALS
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s outdoor track & field team posted a team score of 25 points to finish in a three-way tie for tenth place in a field of 25 teams at the 2007 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships hosted by Howard Community College in Columbia, MD over the weekend.
The Fighting Tigers were led by senior distance runner Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, who placed third in the 10,000 Meters in a time of 35:45.42 and sixth in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 10:15.14. Levens also placed ninth in the 5000 Meters with a time of 16:55.52.
Cobleskill also received strong showings from freshman middle distance runner Eric Graber, Troy, NY, Lansingburgh High School, who placed third in the 800 Meters with a time of 1:57.44 and from senior thrower Kyle Robinson, Canastota, NY, Canastota High School, who placed fourth in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 138’4”. Freshman jumper Kevin Amilcar, White Plains, NY, White Plains High School, also scored for the Orange & Black placing sixth in the Long Jump with a mark of 20’10 ¾”.
“I really thought that we did what we were expected us to do this weekend,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Brad Fichthorn. “Creig Levens was once again a warrior for us going at all three distance races in three days despite being banged up and I thought that Eric Graber’s third place finish in the 800 Meters with his career best at 1:57.44 was very impressive and a sign of great things to come in the future. Kevin Amilcar also showed a lot of heart with his Long Jump fighting off a recurring hamstring problem to place sixth which is extremely positive. Next season with Eric and Kevin returning, and with what I feel is a very solid recruiting class coming in, we’re going to look to improve on this finish and take things to a much higher level.” |
