FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD PLACES SECOND AT 2007 NJCAA REGION III INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s track & field program scored a total of 102 points to place second in a field of five teams at the 2007 NJCAA Region III Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the region at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY.
Fighting Tiger sprinter Keisha Doldron, Brooklyn, NY, Collective Fellowship High School, captured the regional championship in the 400 Meters with a time of 1:09.90 to earn a spot on the 2007 All-Region III Team. Doldron also earned All-Region III honors by running a leg on the Cobleskill’s regional championship Distance Medley Relay along with senior Amanda Aker, Fort Plain, NY, Fort Plain High School, freshman Sarah Furman, West Berne, NY, Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, and senior Tereasa Cox, Bellport, NY, Bellport High School, who combined to set a new program record in the event with a time of 16:43.80.
Keisha Doldron was an individual multiple scorer for Cobleskill placing third in the 55 Meters, 8.00 seconds, and sixth in the 200 Meters, 29.72 seconds, as was Tereas Cox who placed second in the 1000 Meters, 2:55.40, and fifth in the Mile Run, 6:50.10. Amanda Aker was a workhorse for the Fighting Tigers placing second in the 55 Meter Hurdles, 10.30 seconds, and third in the 600 Meters, 2:05.30, while freshman Sarah Furman finished third in the 5000 Meters, 21:06.60, and fourth in the 3000 Meters, 13:27.60. Freshman Kayla Evers, Oneonta, NY, Lighthouse Academy, was also a multiple scorer for the Fighting Tigers placing fourth in the 55 Meters, 8.50 seconds, and third in the 400 Meters, 1:13.00.
The Cobleskill throwing corps was a major source of scoring in the meet as senior Stephanie Schumann, Washingtonville, NY, Washingtonville High School, placed second in the 25 lbs. Weight Throw with a mark of 10.12 meters and fifth in the Shot Put at 9.77 meters. The Fighting Tigers were particularly impressive in the Shot Put as senior Beth Conte, Herkimer, NY, Herkimer High School, placed third at 10.56, freshman Brianna Holcomb, Glens Falls, NY, Glens Falls High School, was fourth at 10.04 meters and freshman Irvandra Boyce-El, Brooklyn, NY, Benjamin Banneker High School, finished sixth at 8.19 meters.
The Fighting Tiger 4 X 400 Meter Relay of Kayla Evers, Amanda Aker, Keisha Doldron and Tereasa Cox closed out the team’s scoring by placing second overall with a time of 4:56.80.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action at the 2007 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships hosted by Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX from Friday March 2nd through Saturday March 3rd.
