FIGHTING TIGER TRACK & FIELD AT 2007 MUHLENBERG COLLEGE NY
The SUNY Cobleskill track & field program once again did some impressive work over the weekend at the 2007 Muhlenberg College Invitational hosted by Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA on Saturday. The Fighting Tigers continued their drive towards the 2007 NJCAA Division III National Championships with a number of stellar performances in the non-scoring meet.
The highlight of the day for the Fighting Tigers came in the 4 X 800 Meter Relay with the Fighting Tiger team of freshman Ed Ahearn, Otego, NY, Unatego High School, senior Brandon Gillis, Hudson, NY, Hudson High School, senior NJCAA All-American Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, and freshman anchor Eric Graber, Troy, NY, Lansingburgh High School, placing a surprising third overall with a national qualifying time of 8:46.04.
Individually for Cobleskill, Creig Levens placed second in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase meeting the national qualifying standard with a time of 10:29.43 while Eric Graber improved his national seed time for the 800 Meters with an impressive time of 1:59.58 to finish sixth overall in the race. Freshman jumper Kevin Amilcar, White Plains, NY, White Plains High School, once again posted a national qualifying performance in the Long Jump placing second in the event with a mark of 6.40 meters. Amilcar also placed sixth in the Triple Jump with a mark of 12.07 meters while freshman distance running Jeff Dufel, Fonda, NY, Fonda-Fultonville High School, placed fifth in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 11:07.76
On the women’s side freshman April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, improved her national qualifying time in both the 800 Meters and the 1500 Meters. Ackermann placed seventh in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:31.93 and ninth in the 1500 Meters with a time of 5:14.85. Senior Teresa Cox, Bellport, NY, Bellport High School, also improved her national seed time at 800 Meters in the meet placing eleventh in the competition with a time of 2:38.53.
Senior sprinter Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, also turned in a solid effort for Cobleskill placing eighth in the 400 Meters with a time of 1:06.14 and twelfth in the 200 Meters with a time of 29.37 seconds.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday April 7th when they travel to Clinton, NY for the Hamilton College Invitational hosted by Hamilton College at the school’s Pritchard Track beginning at 11:00 AM.
