COBLESKILL WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD 2ND AT 2007 MVC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s track & field team scored a total of 155 points to place second at the 2007 Mountain Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY on Saturday. Fighting Tiger athletes won four individual events and two relay events to earn 12 All-Mountain Valley Conference Team selections at the event.
Freshman multi-event athlete Jennifer Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, won league championships in the Long Jump with a mark of 4.67 meters and the Pole Vault clearing a height of 2.12 meters to earn all-conference honors in each event and meeting the national qualifying standards in the process. Villanova also recorded second place finishes in the 100 Meters with a time of 13.8 seconds and the Triple Jump with a mark of 9.69 meters for the Fighting Tigers.
Also earning all-conference honors individually for the Orange & Black were senior sprinter/hurdler Teresa Cox, Bellport, NY, Bellport High School, who won the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 1:21.9 and freshman distance runner April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, who won the 5000 Meters with a time of 22:04.4 which also met the national qualifying mark in the event. Ackermann also finished second in the 800 Meters for the Fighting Tigers in a national qualifying time of 2:30.7 and Cox brought home a third place finish in the 1500 Meters with a time of 5:43.0.
In the relays the Fighting Tigers captured the 4 X 100 Meter Relay as the team of Teresa Cox, Jennifer Villanova, freshman Regina Morgan, Brooklyn, NY, Prospect Heights High School, and senior Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, met the national qualifying mark in the event with a time of 53.1 seconds while the team of Regina Morgan, Teresa Cox, Jennifer Villanova and April Ackerman won the 4 X 400 Meter Relay by meeting the national qualifying standard with a time of 4:29.7. All of the Fighting Tiger relay team members were named to the All-Mountain Valley Conference Team.
Cobleskill also received multiple scoring efforts individually from sprinter/jumper Regina Morgan who placed second in the 400 Meters in a national qualifying time of 1:06.2, second in the 200 Meters in 29.1 seconds and sixth in the Triple Jump with a mark of 8.73 meters and from senior thrower Beth Conte who was third in the Hammer Throw meeting the national qualifying mark with a toss of 31.22 meters, fourth in the Discus at 20.14 meters and sixth in the Shot Put with a mark of 7.10 meters. Freshman multi-event athlete Kayla Evers, Oneonta, NY, Lighthouse Academy, placed fourth in the Hammer Throw meeting the national qualifying mark with a toss of 28.18 meters then finished third in the Pole Vault with a national qualifying mark of 1.83 meters. Multi-event athlete Erinn O’Rourke was also an individual qualifier in the Long Jump for the Fighting Tigers placing fourth in the event covering a distance of 4.38 meters to go with a fourth place finish in the Triple Jump with a mark of 9.05 meters while freshman sprinter/hurdler Keisha Doldren, Brooklyn, NY, Collective Fellowship High School, was second in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 1:23.4 and third in the 100 Meters with at time of 13.9 seconds.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Friday May 4th and Saturday May 5th when they travel to Delhi, NY for the 2007 NJCAA Region III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by SUNY Delhi. |
