COBLESKILL MEN’S TRACK & FIELD 3RD AT 2007 MVC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s track & field team posted a score of 125 points to place third at the 2007 Mountain Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY. Fighting Tiger athletes won four individual conference individual events to garner four All-Mountain Valley Conference Team selections.
Freshman sprinter/jumper Kevin Amilcar, White Plains, NY, White Plains High School, led the way for the Fighting Tigers winning conference titles in the Long Jump taking the event with a national qualifying mark effort of 6.39 meters and the High Jump with an effort of 1.66 meters to earn all-conference honors in each event. Amilcar also placed fourth in the 200 Meters with a time of 24.2 seconds and fourth in the Triple Jump with a mark of 12.04 meters for Cobleskill.
Senior distance runner Brandon Gillis, Hudson, NY, Hudson High School, earned all-conference honors in the 10,000 Meters winning the event with a time of 36:35.4 while senior thrower Kyle Robinson, Canastota, NY, Canastota High School, was victorious in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 41.60 meeting the national qualifying standard in the event and earning all-conference honors in the process. Robinson also placed third for Cobleskill in the Discuss with an effort of 33.24 meters.
Cobleskill also received fine all-around individual performances from freshman mid-distance runner Eric Graber, Troy, NY, Lansingburgh High School, who placed second in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:02.2, once again meeting the national qualifying standard in the event, to go with a third place finish in the 1500 Meters with a time of 4:24.2 and from senior NJCAA All-American distance runner Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, who finished second in the 5000 Meters with a time of 16:24.1. Freshman distance runner Kyle Kunes, Geneva, NY, Geneva High School, placed third in the 10,000 Meters with a time of 38:59.6, freshman sprinter/hurdler, Jon Bates, Bronx, NY, Walton High School, placed third in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 1:04.2 and sixth in the 400 Meters in 54.4 seconds while freshman hurdler Jon O’Conner, Deposit, NY, Deposit High School, finished fourth in the 400 Hurdles in 1:05.2. Freshman Thrower Carney Harper, Cooperstown, NY, Cooperstown High School, also placed fourth in the Shot Put for Cobleskill with a put of 10.40 meters.
In the relays, the Fighting Tiger 4 X 100 Meter Relay of Kevin Amilcar, Jon Bates, senior Hugh Campbell, Bronx, NY, Evander Childs High School, and freshman Chris Torres, Minisink, NY, Minisink Valley High School, met the national qualifying standard in the event placing fourth in a time of 45.4 seconds in the event.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Friday May 4th and Saturday May 5th when they travel to Delhi, NY for the 2007 NJCAA Region III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by SUNY Delhi. |
