FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S TRACK & FIELD 3RD AT 2004 MVC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s track & field program posted a team score of 125 points to place third in a field of five teams at the 2004 Mountain Valley Conference Championships hosted by the Fighting Tigers on Saturday at the college’s track & field complex in Cobleskill, NY.
“We did what was expected of us for the most part with some unexpected performances in the Javelin and the 10,000 Meters,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Brad Fichthorn. “We are now gearing up for our national championships in two weeks and will most likely rest some people at our regional championships this weekend at Delhi.”
The Fighting Tigers captured four conference individual championships highlighted by freshman Robert Keizer, Great Neck, NY, Manhasset High School, who captured the league titles in the Triple Jump with a leap of 14.31 meters and the Long Jump with a mark of 6.91 meters. Senior Mike Russ, Windsor, NY, Windsor High School, won the conference championship at 10,000 Meters handily with a time of 35.38.2 while senior Jon Valovic, Johnstown, NY, Johnstown High School, captured the league title in the Javelin with a toss of 39.80.
Cobleskill also received fine all-around performances from freshman Johnny Baez, Nyack, NY, Nyack High School, who placed second in the 1500 Meters and second in the 200 Meters along with freshman Jamie Julia, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, placed fifth in the 1500 Meters with a time of 4:12.40. In the hurdles the Fighting Tigers were also a factor as senior Jon Cannuzzaro, Millbrook, NY, Millbrook High School, was fourth in the 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.5 seconds and freshman Arsuerus Thompson, Newburgh, NY, Newburgh Free Academy, who placed second in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 1:00.5.
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to Utica, NY, for the 2004 NJCAA Region III Championships hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College on Friday April 30th and Saturday May 1st. |
