FIGHTING TIGER MEN PLACE 2ND AT 2005 MVC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s track & field team posted a score of 124 points to place second in a field of five teams at the 2005 Mountain Valley Conference Track & Field Championships hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY on Saturday.
Senior Robert Keiser, Manhasset, NY, Manhasset High School, led the charge for the Fighting Tigers defending his league titles in the Long Jump, 21’ 6 ¾”, and the Triple Jump, 44’ 2 ¾”, to meet the national qualifying standards in each event and to earn All-Mountain Valley Conference honors for the second consecutive season. Freshman thrower Jon Selonga, Ellenville, NY, Ellenville High School, continued his strong rookie season winning the league title in the Hammer with a toss of 150’ 11” to meet the national qualifying standard earning all-conference honors in the process. Cobleskill also received a conference winning effort from the 4 X 800 Meter Relay of senior Bryan Morseman, Addison, NY, Addison High School, senior Jamie Julia-Perez, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, senior Kane Seamon, Richfield Springs, NY, Richfield Springs High School, and freshman Dan Laube, Chittenango, NY, Chittenango High School, who won the event in a time of 8:27.0 to meet the national qualifying mark.
Additionally the Fighting Tigers received national qualifying performances from: senior Arsuerus Thompson, Newburgh, NY, Newburgh Free Academy, who placed second in the 110 Meter Hurdles, 15.6 seconds, and fourth in the 400 Meter Hurdles, 57.3 seconds, senior Jon Mayer, Hubbardsville NY, Hamilton High School, who placed second in the 100 Meters, 11.2 seconds, and freshman Ryan Machback, Stratford, CT, Notre Dame High School, who was second in the Javelin with a toss of 153’0”.
Cobleskill also received scoring efforts form: freshman Chris White, Fonda, NY, Fonda-Fultonville High School, who placed second in the 10,000 Meters, 35:44.5, freshman Jeremias Paniagua, Manhattan NY, George Washington High School, who was third in the 5000 Meters, 17:25.9, and senior Raquel Thompson, Albany NY, Albany High School, who was fourth in the 200 Meters, 24.4 seconds.
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to Buffalo, NY on Friday May 7th for the 2005 NJCAA Region III Championships hosted by Erie Community College running through Saturday May 8th.
