COBLESKILL’S SEAMON SCORES VICTORY AT NJCAA NATIONAL TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
SUNY Cobleskill freshman distance runner Kane Seamon, Richfield Springs, NY, Richfield Springs High School, scored a dramatic upset victory today against a highly rated field at the 2004 NJCAA Division III Track & Field Championships hosted by Delhi Tech in Delhi, NY in the 10,000 Meters. Seamon completed the race in a time of 34:13.69 to outdistance the field to become the National Champion and an NJCAA All-American in the event.
“I think that this is a surprise to everyone here but Kane Seamon,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Brad Fichthorn. “It was a fairly slow pace going into the last mile which played right into Kane’s strengths. This is a very physically and mentally strong young man with an extremely high pain tolerance who isn’t afraid to push himself at the end of a long race. I’m proud of what he accomplished today, he is a National Champion and you just don’t get any better than that.”
The Richfield Springs High School alumnus has had an outstanding year for the Fighting Tigers earning NJCAA Third Team All-American honors in Cross Country this past fall. He will compete tomorrow for the Fighting Tigers in the 5000 Meters and on Saturday in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase.
After the first day of the meet the Fighting Tiger men are currently in fourth place with a team score of 21 points.
