MARTIN LEADS COBLESKILL WOMEN TO 7TH PLACE FINISH AT 2004 NJCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Freshman Leslie Martin, Hudson Falls, NY, Hudson Falls High School, placed in five individual events to lead the SUNY Cobleskill women’s track & field team to a seventh place finish in a field of 21 teams at the 2004 NJCAA Division III Track & Field National Championships hosted by Delhi Tech in Delhi, NY over the weekend.
“Leslie Martin was the key for us with some outstanding performances,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Brad Fichthorn. “She won the national championship in the High Jump, set new school records in the Long Jump and the High Jump and scored in five individual events. We are now looking to bring in recruits that can fit in the events around Leslie. We’re looking for bigger things next year.”
Martin captured the NJCAA National Championship in the High Jump winning in a jump off with a mark of 5’4 ¼”. The talented freshman also placed fourth in the 400 Meter Hurdles, 1:09.99, fourth in the Long Jump, 5.15 meters, fifth in the 100 Meter Hurdles, 16.83 seconds, and fifth in the Triple Jump, 10.31 meters. With her national title in the High Jump, she becomes the first Fighting Tiger female athlete to win the event in program history.
The Fighting Tigers also received a scoring performance from freshman distance runner Emily Bertier, Union Bridge, MD, Francis Scott Key High School, in the 5000 Meters. Bertier placed seventh overall with a time of 23:36.57. |
