COBLESKILL WOMEN 2ND AT 2005 NJCAA NATIONAL TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s outdoor track & field program posted a team score of 121 points to place second in a field of 17 teams at the 2005 NJCAA Division III National Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Delhi, NY. The second place finish equals the best finish at the national event in program history, matching the 2002 team’s second place finish, and the 121 point total establishes a new program mark for most team points scored at the national meet.
Senior Leslie Martin, Hudson Falls, NY, Hudson Falls High School, scored 44 individual points, the most of any competitor in the event male or female, to lead the Fighting Tigers. Martin earned NJCAA All-American honors in three events winning individual national titles in the Heptathlon, 3053 points, and the High Jump, 1.58 meters, and placing second in the Pole Vault, 2.57 meter. She also placed in: the third in the 400 Meter Hurdles, 1:08.27, third in the 100 Meter Hurdles, 16.92, and seventh in the Long Jump, 4.90 Meters. Martin also ran legs on the Fighting Tigers 4 X 100 Meter Relay and the 4 X 400 Meter Relay.
Freshman Sashoye Wilson, Wheatley Heights, NY, Farmingdale High School, also had an outstanding national meet winning the Triple Jump, 11.32 Meters, to earn NJCAA All-American honors while turning in multiple scoring performances in the meet. Wilson placed third in the 200 Meters, 27.11 seconds, third in the Long Jump, 5.05 Meters, fourth in the 100 Meters, 13.41 seconds, while running legs on the 4 X 100 Meter Relay and the 4 X 400 Meter Relay for the Fighting Tigers.
Senior distance runner Emily Bertier, Union Bridge, MD, Francis Scott Key High School, also played a major role for the Fighting Tigers winning the 3000 Meter Steeplechase, 13:15.77, and placing second in the 10,000 Meters, 42:04.95, to earn All-American honors in each event. Bertier also placed third in the 5000 Meters, 20:12.63, for the Fighting Tigers.
Cobleskill also received scoring performances from: freshman Kara Thompson, Newburgh, NY, Newburgh Free Academy, who placed third in the Heptathlon, 3053 points, and fourth in the 400 Meter Hurdles, 1:09.66, freshman Rachel Prehna, Stamford, NY, Stamford High School, who placed 6th in the 10,000 Meters, 48:52.52, and freshman Lindsey Gertenslager, Yorkshire, NY, Pioneer High School, who was seventh in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 30.39 Meters.
The Fighting Tigers also had a solid meet in the relay events as the 4 X 800 Meter Relay of Emily Bertier, Rachel Prehna, freshman Nicole Franke, Gouverneur, NY, Gouverneur High School, Yvonne Dufour, Hartford, NY, Hartford High School, finished eighth with a time of 12:02.97, the 4 X 100 Meter Relay of, Sashoye Wilson, Leslie Martin, Kara Thompson, Nichole Franke finished third overall with a mark of 52.68 and the 4 X 400 Meter Relay of Emily Bertier, Leslie Martin, Sashoye Wilson, Kara Thompson finished third overall with a time of 4:18.16.
