COBLESKILL INDOOR TRACK & FIELD OPENS SEMESTER AT RIT INVY
The SUNY Cobleskill Indoor Track & Field program returned to action after the semester break on Saturday traveling to Rochester, NY to take part in the 2008 RIT Indoor Invitational hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.
The Cobleskill men put on an impressive showing in the non-scoring meet with senior sprinter David Suarez, Hauppauge, NY, Hauppauge High School, winning the 55 Meter Dash with a time of 6.58 seconds then capturing the 200 Meters by establishing a new program record in the event with a time of 22.87 seconds.
The Fighting Tigers also received strong performances from freshman hurdler Jon Figueroa, North Branch, NY, Sullivan West High School, who placed third in the 55 Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.24 seconds and ninth in the 200 Meters in 24.26 seconds and from senior Carlton Wildman, Huntington, NY, John Glenn High School, who placed third in the 400 Meters with a time of 51.82 seconds. Freshman Ben Boice, Cambridge, NY, Cambridge High School, also turned in a fourth place finish in the 500 Meters with a time of 1:09.50.
In the distance events Cobleskill received solid showings from freshman Richard Garnett, Yonkers, NY, Roosevelt High School, who finished tenth in the Mile with a time of 4:38.23 and from freshman Kevin Wipple, Pine Bush, NY, Pine Bush High School, who placed eleventh in the 3000 Meters in 9:28.93 while in the field events senior thrower Joe Valentine, Swan Lake, NY, Liberty High School, placed ninth in the 35 lbs Weight Throw with a toss of 41’5” and freshman Jacob Schwartz, White Sulphur Springs, NY, Liberty High School, finished seventh in the Pole Vault clearing a height of 12’5”.
On the women’s side, senior NJCAA All-American Jen Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, placed fourth in the in the Long Jump with a mark of 16’ 4 ½” while fellow senior NJCAA All-American Regina Morgan, Brooklyn, NY, Prospect Heights High School, placed fourth in the 200 Meters in a time of 28.66 seconds. Also among the top performers in the meet for the Orange & Black were: senior Tamarra Jenkins, Queens, NY, Jamaica High School, who placed fourth in the 400 Meters in 1:06.13, freshman Brittany Armstrong who placed fifth in the 400 Meters with a time of 1:08.20 and freshman Angela Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, who finished seventh in the Pole Vault clearing a height of 8’10 ¼”.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday January 26th when they travel to Hamilton, NY, to compete in the Class of ’32 Invitational hosted by Colgate University beginning at 9:00 AM.
