FIGHTING TIGER TRACK RUNS WILD AT 2008 MARC DENEAULT INVY
The SUNY Cobleskill indoor track & field program notched another impressive showing over the weekend at the 2008 Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational hosted by Cornell University in Ithaca, NY on Saturday. The Fighting Tiger men run away from the field at the event notching four individual event championships in the non-scoring qualifying meet.
Fighting Tiger freshman mid-distance performer Emille Barnett, Huntington, NY, John Glenn High School, continued to lead the Cobleskill pack winning the 600 Meter Dash with a 1:23.37 effort to set a new program record in the event. Senior sprinter David Saurez, Hauppauge, NY, Hauppauge High School, entered the winner circle once again in the 200 Meter Dash with an effort of 22.65 seconds to go with a fifth place finish in the 60 Meter Dash in 7.17 seconds. Also posting a win on the track was freshman sprinter Leon Thompson, Manhattan, NY, Fredrick Douglas Academy, who captured the 300 Meter Dash in a program record setting time of 36.57 seconds to go with a fourth place finish in the 60 meter Dash in 7.17 seconds. Cobleskill also received a winning performance in the Triple Jump from freshman multi-athlete Aldin Gomez, Westbury, NY, Westbury High School, who posted a mark of 46’ 0 ½”.
Making strong individual showings at the meet were: freshman sprinter/jumper Tomas Velasquez, Catskill, NY, Catskill High School, who placed second in the 300 Meter Dash in 37.76 seconds and tenth in the Long Jump with a mark of 20’ 1 ½”, freshman hurdler Jon Figueroa, North Branch, NY, Sullivan West High School, who finished sixth in the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.92 seconds, senior mid-distance runner Eric Graber, Troy, NY, Lansingburgh High School, who placed ninth in the 1000 Meter Run in 2:43.53, senior thrower Joe Valentin, Swan Lake, NY, Liberty High School, who placed ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 45’3” and freshman mid-distance runner Joe Singer, Onteora, NY, Onteora High School, who placed ninth in the 600 Meter Dash with a time of 1:28.12.
On the women’s side senior NJCAA All-American sprinter Regina Morgan, Brooklyn, NY, Prospect Heights High School, turned in the top individual placing for the Fighting Tigers placing eleventh overall in the 500 Meter Dash with a time of 1:28.54 while senior NJCAA multi-event performer Jen Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, placed fifteenth overall in the 60 Meter Dash with a time of 8.34 seconds and sixteenth in the Triple Jump with a mark of 32’ 6 ¼”.
The Fighting Tigers will next travel select team members to the 2008 NYU Last Chance Qualifying Invitational hosted by New York University at the Armory in New York, NY on Friday February 29th beginning at 4:00 PM
