FIGHTING TIGER INDOOR TRACK & FIELD AT ROBERT J. KANE INVITATIONAL
The SUNY Cobleskill indoor track & field program traveled to Ithaca, NY, over the weekend to compete in Cornell University’s annual Robert J. Kane Invitational the Fighting Tigers last meet before the 2006 NJCAA Region III Indoor Track & Field Championships. Competing against a field of talented four-year institutions the Fighting Tigers had a number of impressive individual performances during the non-scoring meet.
Freshman Chris Dietl, Norwalk, CT, Norwalk High School, turned in the top performance for the Fighting Tiger men placing eighth in the 200 Meter Dash in a time of 23.50 seconds narrowly missing the program indoor record in the event. The talented freshman sprinter currently holds the Fighting Tiger records for the indoor 400 Meter Dash and the in 500 Meter Dash having broken the program records in each event earlier in the season.
Other men’s team members of note in the meet were: freshman Jon Bates, Bronx, NY, Walton High School, who placed thirtieth in the 400 Meter Dash, 57.0 seconds, freshman Dustin Slingerland, Cambridge, NY, Cambridge High School, who was thirtieth in the 60 Meter Dash, 7.81 seconds, and freshman Brian Morrissey, Cortland Manor, NY, Hendrick Hudson High School, who was thirty-eighth in the 800 Meters, 2:13.14.
On the women’s side of the meet freshman Kaylan Ostrander, Queensbury, NY, Queensbury High School, placed fifteenth in the 400 Meter Dash in a time of 1:08.15. Fellow freshman Theresa Cox, Bellport, NY, Bellport High School, finished eighteenth in the 400 Meter Dash, 1:08.83, and thirty-fifth in the 800 Meters, 2:47.64, while senior Rachel Prehna, Stamford, NY, Stamford High School, finished twenty-first in the Mile Run, 6:06.77, and thirty-fourth in the 800 Meters, 2:45.87. Senior Nichole Franke, Gouverneur, NY, Gouverneur High School, placed thirty-first in the 60 Meters with a time of 9.42 seconds.
The Fighting Tigers next travel to Troy, NY, on Sunday February 19th for the 2006 NJCAA Region III Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Hudson Valley Community College beginning at 3:00 PM at the college’s Edward F. McDonough Center. |
