FIGHTING TIGER INDOOR TRACK & FIELD COMPETES AT KANE INVITE
The SUNY Cobleskill Indoor Track & Field program continued to compete against top notch four-year competition traveling to Ithaca, NY to compete in the Kane Invitational hosted by Cornell University over the weekend.
Several Fighting Tiger men’s team members turned in outstanding individual efforts in the meet highlighted by freshman Johnny Baez, Nyack, NY, Nyack High School, who placed sixth in the 800 Meters with a NJCAA National Championship qualifying performance of 1:58.98. Freshman Kane Seamon, Richfield Springs, NY, Richfield Springs High School, also turned in a top ten finish placing tenth in the 5000 Meters with a time of 16:23.44.
Cobleskill also received solid efforts from senior Greg Ernst, Gloversville, NY, Gloversville High School, in the 3000 Meters with a time of 9:50.99 and from freshman Jamie Julia, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, in the Mile with a time of 4:41.76 and the 1000 Meters in a time of 2:45.60.
On the women’s side freshman thrower Brittney Button, Canajoharie, NY, Canajoharie High School, tossed the Heavy Weight a season best 30’4 ¼” while freshman sprinter Sarah Caughey, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, posted a time of 8.61 seconds in the 60 Meter Dash and a mark of 28.09 seconds in the 200 Meters. Freshman Jessica Melber, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, completed the 60 Meter Hurdles in a time of 10.71 seconds for the Fighting Tigers.
“We’re starting to round into shape and competing against this level of competition should pay some big dividends for us down the road,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Brad Fichtorn. “I’m very pleased with Johnny Baez meeting the national qualifying standard and breaking the program record at 800 Meters. We feel he’s going get even better as the year goes on.”
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to Troy, NY on Friday February 20th when they compete in the NJCAA Region III Championships to be held at Hudson Valley Community College.
