FIGHTING TIGER INDOOR TRACK & FIELD COMPETES AT 2004 REGION III CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill men and women’s indoor track & field program traveled to Troy, NY on Friday for the 2004 NJCAA Region III Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted at Hudson Valley Community College. The Cobleskill men posted a team score of 69 points to finish fourth overall while the Fighting Tiger women scored 23 points to place sixth in the event.
Freshman Johnny Baez, Nyack, NY, Nyack High School, turned in the top individual performances for the Fighting Tiger men placing second in the 600 Meters with a time of 1:27.97 and second in the 1000 Meters in 2:40.30. Senior Greg Ernst, Gloversville, NY, Mayfield High School, was fourth in the 5000 Meters with a time of 17:20.6 while senior Jon Cannizzaro, Millbrook NY, Millbrook High School, was fifth in the 55 Meter Hurdles in 8.87 seconds.
The Cobleskill Distance Medley Relay of Johnny Baez, freshman Kane Seamon, Richfield Springs, NY, Richfield Springs High School, freshman Jamie Julia, Amsterdam, NY, Amsterdam High School, and senior Jon Valovic, Johnstown, NY, Johnstown High School, placed second in the event with a time of 11:25.12.
The Fighting Tiger women were led by senior Liz Zenir, Summit, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, who placed fourth in the 1000 Meters with a time of 3:40.9 and fourth in the Mile with a time of 6:10.8. The Fighting Tigers best performance of the meet was turned in by senior sprinter Sarah Caughey, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, who placed third in the 55 Meter Dash with a time of 7.50 seconds.
“I think that we’ve made progress this season and that what we’ve done this year indoors will pay big dividends during the outdoor season,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Brad Fichthorn. “I like the direction things are headed in and am excited about what the future has in store for us the rest of the year.”
The Fighting Tigers will next take a select squad to the Borough of Manhattan in New York, NY on Friday February 27th for the New York University Fast Times Invitational to be held at the legendary Amory Track & Field Center located at 168th Street and Fort Washington Avenue. |
