FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN IMPRESSIVE AT MUHLENBERG COLLEGE INVY
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s outdoor track & field program posted an impressive showing on Saturday at the 2008 Muhlenberg College Invitational hosted by Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. The Fighting Tigers who entered the event ranked number one in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll received seven individual and two relay NJCAA National Qualifying Standard meeting performances at the event.
Senior NJCAA All-American distance runner April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, continued her drive toward the nationals by placing second overall in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a national qualifying time of 12:22.50 then met the national qualifying mark in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:38.03. Fellow NJCAA All-American senior multi-event performer Jennifer Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, was also a national qualifier in the Triple Jump finishing second in the event with a mark of 33’5 ¼”.
Following their senior All-Americans’ example, the rest of the Cobleskill distance/mid-distance contingent enjoyed a successful meet as freshman Alex Devine, Cherry Plains, NY, Berlin High School, placed seventh in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase meeting the national standard with a time of 13:37.00 while senior Meghan Newton, Torrington, CT, Wamogo High School, lowered her national seed time in the 5000 Meters to 21:17.44. At 1500 Meters the Orange & Black received a pair of national qualifying efforts from freshman Angela Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, with a time of 5:35.07 and from freshman Beth Tranes, Goshen, NY, Goshen High School, who posted a time of 5:37.44.
In the relays, the Fighting Tiger 4 X 400 Meter Relay of April Ackermann, Jennifer Villanova, Angela Villanova and freshman Brittany Armstrong, Schenectady, NY, Mohonasen High School, placed seventh meeting the national qualifying standard with a time of 4:31.67 and the Cobleskill 4 X 800 Meter Relay of Alex Devine, Beth Tranes, freshman Megan Donahue, Colonie, NY, Colonie High School, and freshman Beth Cunningham, Durham, NY, Cairo-Durham High School, posted a national qualifying time of 11:39.03.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday April 12th when they travel to Middletown, CT for the 2008 Wesleyan College Invitational hosted by Wesleyan College beginning at 10:00 AM.
