FIGHTING TIGER TRACK AT 2008 BRONCO MID-WEEK INVITATIONAL

The SUNY Cobleskill track & field program made a trip to Delhi, NY on Tuesday to compete in the 2008 Bronco Mid-Week Invitational hosted by SUNY Delhi. The Fighting Tigers continued to make strides toward the post season as Cobleskill’s number one ranked women’s team posted five national qualifying standard meeting performances while the Orange & Black’s number two ranked men’s team brought home a pair of national standard meeting performances from the non-scoring qualifying meet.
Senior NJCAA All-American multi-event athlete Jennifer Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, led the way capturing the Long Jump with a national standard meeting effort of 4.92 meters then placed second in the 400 Meter Hurdles meeting the national standard in the event with a time of 1:14.1. The Villanova family also added a national qualifying performance from freshman multi-event performer freshman Angela Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, who won the Pole Vault clearing 1.98 meters.
Senior multi-event athlete Kayla Evers, Oneonta, NY, Lighthouse Academy, won the Hammer Throw with a national qualifying standard meeting toss of 33.57 meters while senior NJCAA All-American sprinter/jumper Regina Morgan, Brooklyn, NY, Prospect Heights High School, added the 400 Meter Hurdles to her national championship events list hitting the qualifying mark with a time of 1:19.6.
On the men’s side senior thrower Joe Valentin, Swan Lake, NY, Liberty High School, won
the Hammer Throw with a mark of 40.33 meters and placed second in the Discus with a toss
of 37.60 meters meeting the national qualifying marks in each event.
The Fighting Tigers also received winning event performances from freshman sprinter Holden
Davenport, Sharon Springs, NY, Sharon Springs High School, who won the 100 Meters
in 11.8 seconds and took the 200 Meters with a time of 24.1 seconds and from senior
multi-event athlete Chris Torres, Middletown, NY, Minisink Valley High School, who won
the Pole Vault by clearing 2.44 meters.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday April 19th when they travel to the
East Stroudsburg, PA to compete in the 2008 East Stroudsburg State Invitational beginning at
10:00 AM. |
