COBLESKILL WOMEN’S TRACK AT 2008 SWANSON INVITATIONAL

The SUNY Cobleskill women’s outdoor track & field team continued to make important strides toward the 2008 NJCAA Outdoor Championships turning in another stellar performance at the 2008 Swanson Invitational hosted by Wesleyan College in Middletown, CT on Saturday. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked first in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Senior NJCAA All-American sprinter/jumper Regina Morgan, Brooklyn, NY, Prospect Heights High School, led the way for the Orange & Black placing fifth in the 200 Meters in a national qualifying time of 28.22 seconds to go with another national qualifying performance in the 400 Meters with a time of 1:05.94 good for sixth place versus the field. Freshman sprinter Tamarra Jenkins, Queens, NY, Jamaica High School, continued her strong season meeting the national standard in the 400 Meters finishing third with a time of 1:03.95.
In the mid-distance and distance events Cobleskill continued to excel as senior NJCAA All-American April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, met the national standard at 5000 Meter placing fifth in a time of 19:50.72 while freshman Beth Tranes, Goshen, NY, Goshen High School, also met the national standard at 5000 Meters with a time of 21:46.43. Freshman Meghan Newton, Torrington, CT, Wamogo High School, added the 3000 Meter Steeplechase to her national championship qualifying efforts placing second with a time of 14:43.26 while freshman Meghan LaPoint, Schenectady, NY, Colonie High School, met the national standard in the 1500 Meters placing sixth in a time of 5:26.04. Freshman Angela Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High school, also turned in a national qualifying effort in the 800 Meters placing eleventh overall in a time of 2:41.03.
The Fighting Tigers also received a national qualifying performance in the 4 X 400 Relay from the team of Angela Villanova, Tamarra Jenkins, Regina Morgan and freshman Brittany Armstrong, Schenectady, NY, Mohonasen High School, who placed second in the event with a time of 4:28.82.
Cobleskill will return to action on Tuesday April 15th when, weather permitting, they will travel to Delhi, NY, to compete in the Bronco Invitational hosted by SUNY Delhi beginning at 3:00 PM. |
