FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S TRACK POSTS FAST START AT DICK SHEA INY
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s track & field team posted an impressive opening to the outdoor season recording seven NJCAA Division III National Qualifying Standard meeting efforts at the 2008 Dick Shea Invitational hosted by the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY on Saturday.
The Fighting Tiger distance corps led the way for the Orange & Black on Saturday with four team members meeting the national qualifying mark in the 10,000 Meters led by NJCAA All-American April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, who placed seventh in the race in a time of 41:56.50. Also qualifying in the event were: freshman Meghan LaPoint, Schenectady, NY, Colonie High School, who placed eighth with a time of 42:44.10, freshman Alex Devine, Cherry Plains, NY, Berlin High School, who finished ninth with a time of 45:48.40 and freshman Meghan Newton, Torrington, CT, Wamogo High School, who placed tenth in a time of 45:48.78.
Senior NJCAA All-American multi-event performer Jennifer Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, will be returning to the NJCAA National Championships again this year meeting the qualify standard in the Long Jump with a mark of 4.91 meters which led to the team’s highest individual placing in an individual event with a sixth place finish.
Cobleskill freshman sprinter/mid-distance performer Tamarra Jenkins, Queens, NY, Jamaica High School, also posted a strong initial outing of the season meeting the national qualifying marks in the 200 Meters placing eighth in a time of 28.26 seconds and the 400 Meters finishing eighth overall in a time of 1:05.92.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday April 5th when the program travels to Allentown, PA to compete at the 2008 Muhlenberg College Invitational hosted by Muhlenberg College beginning at 10:00 AM.
