FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S TRACK COMPETES AT BANTAM INVITATIONAL
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s track & field program stepped up in competition on Saturday at the 2006 Bantam Invitational hosted by Trinity College in Hartford, CT. The Fighting Tigers used the strong field of four-year programs to qualify four team members for the 2006 NJCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships to be hosted by Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY from May 11th through May 13th.
Senior thrower Mike Craft, Colonie, NY, Colonie High School, led the way for the Fighting Tigers placing fourth in the Discus with a toss of 38.28 meters. Freshman thrower Kyle Robinson, Canastota, NY, Canastota High School, will be joining Craft in Buffalo after qualifying in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 34.26 meters which was good for thirteenth place overall. Robinson also finished twelfth in the Shot Put with an effort of 11.88 meters.
Cobleskill also received a national qualifying effort in the Pole Vault from Senior Allen Putzig, Conesus, NY, Livonia High School, who placed sixth in the event with a vault of 3.65 meters. The Fighting Tigers other national qualifying performance came on the track from freshman Chris Dietl, Norwalk, CT, Norwalk High School, who finished fourteenth in the 400 Meters with a time of 52.07 seconds.
Cobleskill received a pair of solid outings on track from freshman distance runner Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, who finished fourth in the 10,000 Meters with a time of 35:36.04 and from freshman Brian Morrisey, Cortlandt Manor, NY, Hendrick Hudson High School, in the 400 Meter Hurdles with an eleventh place finish in a time of 1:06.33.
The Fighting Tigers are tentatively scheduled; weather permitting, to compete in the Hawk Relays hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY on Wednesday April 5th before traveling to Williamstown, MA on Saturday April 8th for the Williams College Invitational.
