FIGHTING TIGER MEN POST STRONG SHOWING AT 2006 J. ELMER SWANSON INVITATIONAL
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s outdoor track & field team posted their strongest showing of the season to date on Saturday at the 2006 J. Elmer Swanson Invitational hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.
The highlight of the meet for the Fighting Tigers came in the 1600 Meter Relay when the relay team of freshman Matt Czajkowski, Duanesburg, NY, Duanesburg High School, freshman Chris Dietl, Norwalk, CT, Norwalk High School, freshman Matt McCann, Warnerville, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, and freshman John Bates, Walton, NY, Walton High School, won the event in a time of 3:30.42 to meet the NJCAA Division III National Qualifying Standard.
Czajkowski and Dietl also contributed individually for the Fighting Tigers as Czajkowski met the NJCAA National Qualifying Standard in the 100 Meter Dash placing fifth in a time of 11.71 seconds and Dietl hit the national mark in the 200 Meter Dash placing fourth with a time of 22.96 seconds.
Senior Mike Craft, Colonie, NY, Colonie High School, also continued his drive towards the NJCAA National Championships improving his national seed in the Discus with a toss of 39.62 meters to place sixth overall while freshman Kyle Robinson, Canastota, NY, Canastota High School, finished eighth in the Hammer Throw meeting the national standard with a mark of 33.76 meters.
Cobleskill also received strong performances from freshman distance runner Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, who placed fourth in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 10:58.56 and from freshman distance runner Brandon Gillis, Hudson, NY, Hudson High School, who finished eleventh in the 1500 Meters with a time of 4:42.65. Freshman Brian Morrissey, Cortlandt Manor, NY, Hendrick Hudson High School, finished eleventh in the 800 Meters in 2:09.15 while the hurdling duo of senior Dan Clark, Chittenango, NY, Chittenango High School, and senior Dan Laube, Chittenango, NY, Chittenango High School, placed ninth and tenth respectively in the 400 Meter Hurdles with times of 1:02.44 and 1:03.10. Freshman jumper Jeremy Nunez, Washingtonville, NY, Washingtonville High School, also turned in a solid performance in the Long Jump finishing eighth in the meet with a leap of 5.72 meters while Matt McCann finished tenth in the 400 Meters with a time of 53.93 seconds.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Tuesday April 18th when they travel to Delhi, NY for the Delhi Tech Qualifying Invitational hosted by Delhi Tech beginning at 3:00 PM.
