COBLESKILL MEN’S TRACK AT ITHACA QUALIFYING MEET
A mid-week qualifying meet hosted by Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, brought the SUNY Cobleskill men’s outdoor track & field team on of its best highlights of the 2006 season.
Freshman distance runner Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, won the 3000 Meter Steeplechase for the Fighting Tigers meeting the NJCAA National Qualifying Standard with a time of 10:24.00. It was Levens’ first intercollegiate victory on the track in his Fighting Tiger career.
The Cobleskill throwing corps also continued their drive towards the NJCAA Division III National Championships as freshman Kyle Robinson, Canastota, NY, Canastota High School, unleashed one of his best efforts of the season with a toss of 36.86 meters in the Hammer Throw to finish ninth overall and to improve his national seed. Senior Matt Craft, Colonie, NY, Colonie High School, also met the national standard once again in the Discus with a mark of 39.05 meters.
The Fighting Tigers also received solid showings from freshman sprinter Chris Dietl, Norwalk, CT, Norwalk High School, in the 400 Meters with a sixth place finish in a time of 53.09 seconds and from freshman sprinter Matt Czajokowski, Duanesburg, NY, Duanesburg High School, who finished fifth in the 200 Meters with a time of 24.03 seconds.
Cobleskill will next compete on Saturday April 29th when the Fighting Tigers host the 2006 Mountain Valley Conference Track & Field Championships beginning at 9:30 AM at the college’s track & field complex.
