FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN MAKE STRONG SHOWING AT ITHACA MEET
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s outdoor track & field team continued their strong 2006 season traveling to Ithaca, NY on Tuesday to compete in an afternoon qualifying meet hosted by Ithaca College. Once again the Fighting Tigers made use of good weather conditions and a talented field to enhance their NJCAA National Championship position with several national qualifying performances.
On the track freshmen sprinters Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, and Amanda Aker, Fort Plain, NY, Fort Plain High School, each met the NJCAA National Qualifying Standard in the 400 Meter Dash. O’Rourke placed fourth in the event with a time of 1:03.90 while Aker placed fifth in a time of 1:05.20. Freshman middle distance runner Theresa Cox, Bellport, NY, Bellport High School, also used the meet to her advantage lowering her nation seed time in the 800 Meters with her personal best in the event with a time of 2:38.60 good for eighth place overall.
In the field events the Fighting Tiger throwing contingent continued to impress as senior Stephanie Schumann, Washingtonville, NY, Washingtonville High School, placed fifth in the Hammer Throw with an effort of 28.41 meters and freshman Beth Conte, Herkimer, NY, Herkimer High School, placed seventh in the event with a toss of 27.58 meters. With their efforts both met the national qualifying standard in the event.
Cobleskill will next compete on Saturday April 29th when the Fighting Tigers host the 2006 Mountain Valley Conference Track & Field Championships beginning at 9:30 AM at the college’s track & field complex.
