FRANKE NAMED FIGHTING TIGER ATHLETE-OF-THE-WEEK

The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that senior Nichole Franke, Gouverneur, NY, Gouverneur High School, a member of the women’s outdoor track & field team has been named the athletic program’s Fighting Tiger Athlete-of-the-Week.

Franke won the Mountain Valley Conference Championship in the Women’s Javelin at the 2006 MVC Championships hosted by SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday at the college’s track & field complex meeting the NJCAA National Qualifying Standard with a personal best toss of 27.57 meters in the event. It marked the second time the senior physical education major earned all-conference honors having earned all-league acclaim in 2005 as part of Cobleskill’s MVC Championship 400 Meter Relay Team. Franke was also an NJCAA Academic All-American selection in 2005 for the Fighting Tigers.

The Cobleskill women posted a team score of 131 points to finish in third place for the event and will next travel to Delhi, NY for the 2006 NJCAA Region III Championships to be hosted by Delhi Tech from Friday May 5th through Saturday May 6th.
