FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S TRACK 2ND AT 2006 MVC CHAMPIONSHIP MEET
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s track & field program used near perfect weather conditions to post a team score of 120.5 points good for a second place finish at the 2006 Mountain Valley Conference Championship Meet; hosted by the Fighting Tigers on Saturday April 29th, at the Cobleskill Track & Field Complex. The host team claimed three individual conference event championships and two relay MVC titles with ten team members earning all-conference honors.
Individually freshman distance runner Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, captured the 10,000 Meters meeting the NJCAA Division III National Qualifying Standard with a time of 34:05.0. Freshman sprinter Matt Czajokowski, Duanesburg, NY, Duanesburg High School, won the 400 Meters lowing his national seed time in the event to 51.3 seconds while senior thrower Mike Craft, Colonie, NY, Colonie High School, unleashed his best effort of the year to date improving his national qualifying mark with a toss of 41.45 meters.
The Fighting Tigers also garnered all-conference honors by capturing the 4 X 800 Meter Relay as freshman Gilbert Fracillon, Bronx, NY, Midwood High School, senior Brian Morrissey, Cortland Manor, NY, Hendrick Hudson High School, senior Peter Williamson, Rocky Point, NY, Rocky Point High School, and senior Dan Laube, Chittenango, NY, Chittenango High School, bested the field with a time of 9:04.50. Cobleskill then closed the meet in dramatic fashion as the 4 X 400 Meter Relay of Matt Czajokowski, freshman Matt McCann, Warnerville, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, freshman Chris Burke, Spencerport, NY, Spencerport High School, and freshman Chris Dietl, besting the field in dramatic fashion as Dietl came from behind to defeat Delhi Tech at the tape helping the squad post a national qualifying mark of 3:31.0.
Cobleskill also received national qualifying performances from freshman thrower Kyle Robinson, Canastota, NY, Canastota High School, in the Hammer Throw with a personal best mark of 39.40 meters to finish second and from Dan Laube in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 1:00.70 good for third place overall. Chris Dietl also lowered his national seed in the 400 Meters with a time of 52.0.
Multiple scoring efforts were also turned in by freshman Brandon Gillis, Hudson, NY, Hudson High School, who placed fifth in the 1500 Meters with a time of 4:34.5 and fifth in the 5000 Meters with a time of 18:25.4 and freshman Brian Keefe, Deposit, NY, Deposit High School, who finished fifth in the Triple Jump, 11.11 meters, third in the Javelin, 39.01 meters, and sixth in the High Jump, 1.55 meters. Kyle Robinson also finished second in the Shot Put, 11.53 meters, and Gilbert Fracillon finished fourth in the 800 Meters with a personal best time of 2:05.4 for the Fighting Tigers.
Cobleskill will next travel to Delhi, NY over the weekend for the 2006 NJCAA Region III Championships hosted by Delhi Tech from Friday May 5th thru Saturday May 6th.
