COBLESKILL WOMEN’S TRACK PLACES 3RD AT 2006 MVC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s track & field team used excellent weather conditions and a home track advantage to post a team score of 131 points good for a third place finish at the 2006 Mountain Valley Conference Championship Meet; hosted by the Fighting Tigers on Saturday April 29th, at the Cobleskill Track & Field Complex. The program had four individual event conference champions and a number of team members meet NJCAA National Qualifying Standards in the meet.
Earning All-Mountain Valley Conference honors for the Fighting Tigers were freshman sprinter/jumper Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, who captured the Long Jump with an effort of 4.49 meters, senior thrower Stephanie Schumann, Washingtonville, NY, Washingtonville High School, who won the Shot Put with a mark of 9.62 meters, freshman Kaylan Ostrander, Queensbury, NY, Queensbury High School, who triumphed in the Pole Vault clearing a height of 2.40 meters and senior Nichole Franke, Gouverneur, NY, Gouverneur High School, who won the Javelin with a toss of 27.57 meters.
O’Rourke also was a major force in the meet for Cobleskill placing second in the 200 Meters better her national seed time with an effort of 27.70 seconds, fourth in the 400 Meters once again bettering her national seed time with a time of 1:03.70 and finishing third in the Triple Jump with an effort of 9.14 meters.
Freshman hurdler Amanda Aker, Fort Plain, NY, Fort Plain High School, bettered her national qualifying times in the 400 Meter Hurdles placing third overall in a time of 1:14.2 and in the 100 Hurdles finishing third in 17.3 seconds. Fellow freshman Theresa Cox, Bellport, NY, Bellport High School, also had a fine outing for Cobleskill also improving her national qualifying time in the 800 Meters with a run of 2:38.1 while finishing third in the 1500 Meters with an effort of 5:42.0.
The Cobleskill throwing corps was also active in the meet as senior Ashley Coles, Albany, NY, Albany High School, placed second in the Discus with a national qualifying performance of 27.49 meters and freshman Beth Conte, Herkimer, NY, Herkimer High School, finished second in the Hammer also meeting the national standard with a toss of 28.87 meters.
Cobleskill will next travel to Delhi, NY over the weekend for the 2006 NJCAA Region III Championships hosted by Delhi Tech from Friday May 5th thru Saturday May 6th. |
