COBLESKILL WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK 5TH AT REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s outdoor track & field team placed fifth with a team score of 60 points at the 2006 NJCAA Region III Championship meet hosted by Delhi Tech in Delhi, NY over the weekend. The meet was the final qualifying opportunity before the 2006 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be hosted next week at Erie Community College in Orchard Park, NY.
Freshman middle distance runner Theresa Cox, Bellport, NY, Bellport High School, turned in a pair of strong efforts for the Fighting Tigers meeting the national qualifying mark in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:39.50 to finish third in the event and in the 1500 Meters with a third place finish in a time of 5:37.40 to meet the national standard. Freshman multi-event athlete Kaylan Ostrander, Queensbury, NY, Queensbury High School, improved her national qualifying mark in the Pole Vault placing second in the event with a personal best effort of 2.49 meters while meeting the national qualifying mark in the 400 Meters with a fifth place finish in a time of 1:06.60.
Cobleskill also received strong showings from freshman hurdler Amanda Aker, Nelliston, NY, Fort Plain High School, who improved her national seed times in the 100 Meter Hurdles, seventh place in 17.3 seconds, and the 400 Meter Hurdles, third place 1:09.70. Freshman Erin O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, once again had another fine showing for the Fighting Tigers placing fourth in the 200 Meters lowering her national seed time with a 27.50 second showing and bettering her flight mark in the Long Jump with a leap of 4.52 meters.
The Fighting Tiger throwing corps continued to impress observers with senior Nichole Franke, Gouverneur, NY, Gouverneur High School, placing second in the Javelin meeting the national standard with a toss of 25.69 meters and freshman Beth Conte, Herkimer, NY, Herkimer High School, finishing third in the Hammer improving her qualifying mark with an effort of 30.17 meters. Senior Stephanie Schumann, Washingtonville, NY, Washingtonville High School, also improved her national meet standing in the Shot Put with a mark of 9.84 meters.
The Fighting Tigers will next compete at the 2006 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Erie Community College in Orchard Park, NY beginning on Thursday May 11th and running through Saturday May 13th.
