Since becoming the SUNY Cobleskill program's seventh head track & field in 2002 coach Brad Fichthorn has quickly established himself as one of the top coaches at the NJCAA Division III level. In a period of only four years, Fichthorn has taken his passion for the sport of track & field and used it to lead the Fighting Tigers to the upper echelons of the nation. During his tenure at the helm of the program he has consistently guided the Cobleskill men and women's program's to top ten finishes at the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships highlighted in 2005 by the Fighting Tiger women placing second and the men placing third at the championships. For his efforts Fichthorn was named the 2005 NJCAA Division III National Coach-of-the-Year by his peers. He was also named the 2005 Mountain Valley Conference Women's Coach-of-the-Year after the Fighting Tiger women captured the league's title during the season.
During his tenure the program has produced 14 NJCAA Division III Outdoor All-Americans, including eight National Champions, and six NJCAA Academic All-Americans. Additionally Cobleskill has produced 34 Outdoor Mountain Valley Conference Champions, seven Outdoor Region III Champions and four Indoor Region III Champions during this time.
The Reading, PA native was a three-sport performer in football, basketball and track & field for Governor Mifflin High School. He then attended and competed at NCAA Division II powerhouse Kutztown University of Pennsylvania where he earned his degree in Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education/Social Studies. Fichthorn also earned All-ECAC honors in Indoor Track & Field competing in the 35-wieght. Upon the completion of his college career he joined the Golden Bear staff as an assistant coach in 2000.
During 2001 he served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Georgia Southern University where he earned his Masters Degree in Sports Management and coached three throwers to All-Southern Conference honors. He returned to Kutztown University in 2002 to work with the program’s throwers and to aid in the Golden Bears’ recruiting efforts.
Coach Fichthorn also serves the college of an assistant professor in the Cobleskill Physical Education, Recreation and Sports Studies Department.
