The following document is intended to provide information which is useful for the student athlete in their quest for a positive experience.
In addition to relevant information you will also find many of the college and NCAA forms required for your safe participation.
Although comprehensive this guide may not contain all rules and policies. Should you have additional questions please contact your respective coach and or the Director of Athletics.

ATHLETIC MISSION STATEMENT
SUNY Cobleskill athletics is committed to a broad based experience which is aligned with the overall mission of the college. Included in this experience is the pursuit of excellence while maintaining respect, dignity and sportsmanship. The intercollegiate program encourages participation for all, while striving for diversity and equity.
SUNY Cobleskill athletics is committed to a well rounded amateur experience with special emphasis on student athlete academic success, appropriate lifestyle choices and a value based education in the classroom and on the playing fields.
STUDENT-ATHLETES GENERAL GUIDELINES
Must fill out all appropriate college and NCAA paperwork, prior to engaging in any or all practices.
Must adhere to all college academic policies and be registered as a full time student in order to participate
Must be a student in good standing relative to all college rules and regulations.
Must be responsible for all equipment distributed to the s-a. If lost or stolen it is the responsibility of the s-a.
If injured must report condition to the head coach and the athletic trainer. If removed from practice due to injury or illness must follow directions of the AT and coach.
Must travel with team to and away contest unless prior written approval is granted by the Director of Athletics.
Must represent the college at all contests in a professional and courteous manner.
SUNY COBLESKILL ATHLETICS MISSED CLASS POLICY
The athletic department is committed to insuring that our student-athletes academic experience is not compromised by missed class opportunities related to their athletic participation. Therefore it is essential that the following policy is followed:
Student-athletes may not miss class to attend intercollegiate athletic practices.
Student will not be penalized for missed practices and or contests, due to class attendance.
Student-athletes who do miss classes due to athletic contests are required to make up missed assignments, work, quizzes or tests.
The athletic department will send via email announcements to the campus detailing travel plan for away athletic events (I.e. departure times).
The Student-Athlete welfare coordinator will track all missed class times by student athletes on an annual basis and make that information available to the AD and other pertinent college administrators.
Student-athletes are expected to understand all of their class/course requirements and at all times meet the expectations of each instructor, regardless of their athletic participation.
SUNY COBLESKILL STUDENT-ATHLETE CODE OF CONDUCT
As a Student-Athlete I am given the opportunity to participate in intercollegiate athletics. This is a privilege that brings with it the expectation for conduct that is a credit to myself, my sport, and my college. I am expected to strive for my best performance and to abide by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the State University of New York at Cobleskill (SUNY Cobleskill) rules and regulations. I will demonstrate this conduct in the following manner:
A. Athletes arrested and/or ticketed are subject to immediate suspension from intercollegiate practices and/or contests, subject to administrative review. Upon final adjudication, a decision will be rendered regarding the athlete’s continuation as a member of the intercollegiate program. If dismissed, the student-athlete will have the right to appeal the decision within 48 hours.
B. I understand that should I be convicted of a crime off-campus and/or found guilty of violating any college policy, I will be subject to judicial procedures as stated in the Student Handbook. In addition I understand that the result of any judicial proceeding in which the findings are against me may have an adverse effect on my eligibility to be on an athletic team.
C. As a member of a SUNY Cobleskill athletic team, I will be expected to:
1. Not abuse alcoholic beverages, tobacco, or use illegal drugs while a member of a SUNY Cobleskill athletic team. Per NCAA By-law 11.1.5, the use of tobacco products are prohibited in all sports during practice and games.
2. Maintain an academic status as a full-time student (a minimum of twelve credit hours, not including varsity sports credit).
3. Make satisfactory progress in my classes towards a degree.
4. Notify all instructors in advance of a class absence due to an approved athletic contest. Classes may not be missed at any time due to practices.
5. Make-up all class work whenever possible prior to missing any class for an athletic contest.
6. Demonstrate good sportsmanship and ethical conduct.
7. Refrain from profane and vulgar language.
8. Be responsible for all college issued athletic equipment and return all equipment upon completion of the season or upon demand from the coach and/or athletic department.
9. Travel to and from athletic contests with the team in transportation provided by the college. As a student-athlete I will strive to keep our vehicles clean.
10. Bring all injuries to the immediate attention of the coach or certified Athletic Trainer, and to adhere to a prescribed rehabilitation treatment program for the management of injuries.
11. Sign the travel voucher, with student identification number, for each away contest.
12. Dress and behave in a respectful manner while traveling with any SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Team.
13. Refrain from participation in any type of athletic hazing.

SUNY COBLESKILL HAZING POLICY
SUNY Cobleskill is adamantly opposed to any act related to or involving “Hazing”.
Hazing is defined as any act, whether physical, mental, emotional, or psychological, which subjects another person, voluntarily or involuntarily, to anything that may abuse, mistreat, degrade, humiliate, harass, or intimidate him/her.
As a student athlete, I certify that I have been made aware of the athletic department’s policy against hazing. I further state that I will not become involved in any such activities related to hazing as a member of a SUNY Cobleskill sports team.
I also understand that violation of this policy will lead to my suspension and/or dismissal from the athletic team(s) that I am a member of. I also understand that I may be subject to additional college disciplinary action.

STUDENT ACADEMIC STANDARDS
The IAB determined that a definitive standard determining student-athlete academic eligibility be adopted. This standard, which is higher than the minimums established by the NCAA, the NEAC, and most NEAC member colleges, is designed to assure the positive academic image of our student-athletes while remaining fair to the student-athlete. It also takes into consideration both the minimum number of credit hours successfully completed and the cumulative grade point average.
1. The student-athlete must maintain his/her full-time student status throughout the semester of competition by remaining enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12.0) credit hours.
2. The student-athlete must meet the following minimum academic standards, based on the sliding scale shown below, to maintain his/her eligibility to participate in competition.
