FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TOP MORRISVILLE STATE 68-49
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball team took to the road on Saturday to defeat Morrisville State College by a 68-49 margin in Mountain Valley Conference play. The victory moved the Fighting Tigers to 17-2 overall with an 8-1 mark in conference play. Cobleskill is currently ranked ninth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
With NJCAA All-American forward Dee Dee Smith, Monticello, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, missing most of the second half due to injury and held to only five points the Fighting Tigers found offensive help and defensive presence in other areas.
Senior forward Tahara Pleasure, Albany, NY, Albany High School, turned in the best game of her college career notching a career high of 17 points to go with four rebounds, four assists and two steals and senior center Crystal Ferrer, Bronx, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, posting a double/double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Meghan Smida, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, returned from the injured list to score eight points and grab three rebounds and freshman forward Kim McMillen, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, added eight points and eight rebounds to the Cobleskill victory totals.
“I think our bench really fueled the victory which is good in terms of learning what we can and can’t do heading towards the post-season,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “Tahara Pleasure was outstanding today playing by far her best collegiate game and Kim McMillen was definitely a bright spot as was Meghan Smida who hit a couple of key threes for us in the second half. We did a good job of finding alternate scorers when Dee Dee left the game and I think this will pay dividends for us down the road.”
The Fighting Tigers will next travel to Delhi, NY on Monday January 30th for a Mountain Valley Conference game versus Delhi Tech with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
