FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN DISMANTLE HOLYOKE CC 72-43
An afternoon visit to the Basketball Hall-of-Fame in Springfield, MA put the SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball team in the proper frame of mind for their evening’s contest versus Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, MA last night as the Fighting Tigers put on a display that Dr. Naismith himself would have been impressed with as Cobleskill defeated their hosts by a 72-43 margin. The victory pushes the Fighting Tigers overall record to 4-0 on the season.
“We were able to come out with our third straight road victory and it’s always nice to win on the road,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “We basically limited our starters to about 17 minutes tonight and put some other people into situations where they could develop for down the road as we head into conference play. We also put in some new wrinkles both offensively and defensively and tried them out under game conditions. Overall this was a positive day and now we’re ready to get home for a regional game against Tompkins-Cortland on Thursday.”
Senior center Crystal Ferrer, Bronx, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, once again dominated the paint with a 12 point and 18 rebound effort while senior NJCAA All-American forward Dee Dee Smith, Monticello, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, added 12 points to go with four rebounds and three steals on the evening. Freshman point guard Tanisha McClinton, Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie High School, chipped in seven points and four assists in the victory while freshman swing person Kim Stahl, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, added eight points from the field in the contest.
