FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN DEFEAT WILLIAM JV 71-46 TO GO 6-0 ON SEASON
With Columbia-Greene Community College terminating their women’s basketball program for the season the SUNY Cobleskill women’s team has seen a major schedule overhaul which began with a trip to Williamstown, MA last night for a road game versus the Williams College Junior Varsity. The Fighting Tigers used a balanced offensive attack to stifle the Ephs by a 71-46 margin to head into the Thanksgiving break with a perfect 6-0 record.
“I was pleased with the effort given the fact that the Thanksgiving break is right around the corner and I thought that our bench play was exceptional tonight overall out playing our starters and really dictating the game’s outcome. I thought we wore them down with our depth and did a lot of damage to them in the later stages when they were tired,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “We divided the first semester into two parts and our goal at the Thanksgiving break was to be undefeated which we’ve accomplished. Now we’re all looking forward to a few days off to recharge our batteries and get ready for the tournament at Cayuga this weekend.”
Freshman point guard Tanisha McClinton, Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie High School, led the Fighting Tigers in scoring with 14 points while freshman forward Kim McMillen, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, continued her strong play off the bench with 12 points and 14 rebounds on the evening. Senior center Crystal Ferrer, Bronx, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, also turned in a strong effort 10 points, three rebounds and four steals on the evening.
The Fighting Tigers continued to receive solid play from freshman guard Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, with nine points and four assists and from freshman forward Allyssa Markey, Warrensburg, NY, Warrensburg High School, with six points and three rebounds. Senior NJCAA All-American Dee Dee Smith, Monticello, NY, Monticello High School, scored six points, grabbed three rebounds, passed out four assists and made two steals in limited minutes and freshman guard Meghan Smida, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, chipped in five points and two assists on the evening.
Cobleskill will next travel to Auburn, NY, on Saturday for the opening round of the Spartan Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Cayuga Community College. Cobleskill will meet Niagara Community College in the opening round of the tournament on Saturday November 26th beginning at 1:00 PM.
