FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN POUND MORRISVILLE STATE 63-39 IN MVC PLAY
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball team overcame a sluggish first half to easily cruise past the visiting Mustangs of Morrisville State College by a 63-39 margin in Cobleskill on Saturday. With the win the Fighting Tigers move to 14-2 on the season with a 5-1 mark in Mountain Valley Conference play. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked ninth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
“I thought that we didn’t come out ready to play today. I didn’t think we played well offensively but we scored 63 points. I didn’t think we played well defensively but we held them to 39 points,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “We are starting to spread the scoring around and I thought we did an excellent job on their big girl Ashawn Ferguson holding her to only seven rebounds when she averages almost fifteen per game. We’re happy with the win but we can definitely be much better.”
Senior NJCAA All-American forward Dee Dee Smith, Monticello, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, led the Fighting Tigers in scoring with 13 points in the contest while senior center Crystal Ferrer, Bronx, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, added 12 points and six rebounds on the afternoon.
