FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S B-BALL SINKS HVCC VIKINGS BY 89-25 MARGIN
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball team put forth one of their best efforts of the season last night easily dispatching the visiting Vikings of Hudson Valley Community College by a lopsided 89-25 margin in Mountain Valley Conference action. The victory pushes the Fighting Tigers overall record on the season to 15-2 including a 6-1 record in league play. Cobleskill is currently ranked ninth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tigers came out on fire jumping out to an early 12-0 lead which expanded to a comfortable 44-17 margin at the half. Things did not get better for the visitors in the second half as Cobleskill limited the Vikings to only eight points during the entire second half on a scant two baskets from the field. To further punctuate its victory, Cobleskill held Hudson Valley to only one point during the games last six minutes of play to close out the night.
“Last night we came out physically prepared and mentally in the right frame of mind to play basketball. From one to ten on the roster we played exceptionally well,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “When I look back on the game I think as well as we played offensively; that we actually played better defensively holding them to only seven field goals on the night and just eight points in the second half.”
Senior center Crystal Ferrer, Bronx, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, dominated the paint to lead the Fighting Tigers with 24 points, 12 rebounds and four steals on the night while senior NJCAA All-American forward Dee Dee Smith, Monticello, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, ripped the Vikings for 17 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and five steals on the evening. Freshman forward Allyssa Markey, Warrensburg, NY, Warrensburg High School, with 11 points and nine rebounds and freshman forward Kim McMillen, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, further added to the Hudson Valley woes inside with six points and 14 rebounds.
