FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN MAUL HOLYOKE COUGARS 68-55
Coming off a pair of disappointing losses at the Cayuga Community College Holiday Invitational in Auburn, NY over the weekend; the SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball team returned to their winning ways Tuesday night, defeating the visiting Cougars of Holyoke Community College 68-55 last night at the Iorio Gymnasium. The victory pushes the Fighting Tigers overall record to 5-2 on the season to date as they head into the Thanksgiving holiday break.
After a hard fought first half which saw them hold a 28-25 lead over the pesky Cougars the Fighting Tigers extended their claws and ripped the visitors up in the paint as the Cobleskill inside duo of senior power forward Kim McMillen, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, and freshman center/forward April Ackermann, Lake Huntington, NY, Sullivan High School, took over the action. McMillen scored 15 points to go with seven rebounds and three steals while Ackermann also tallied 15 points on the evening to go with six rebounds.
The Cobleskill attack also showed balance with senior guard Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, scoring 10 points, passing out three assists and coming up with three steals, senior guard/forward Kim Stahl, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, scoring 10 points to go with three rebounds and senior point guard Meghan Smida, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, scoring 10 points in the contest. Senior forward Andrea Piedigrossi, Cortland, NY, Cortland High School, also had six points and two rebounds for the Fighting Tigers.
Cobleskill will return to the court on Tuesday November 28th when they host the Lady Hornets of Broome Community College at 5:00 PM. The game will be the first game of a men’s/women’s doubleheader with the Fighting Tiger men’s team hosting the Hornets at 7:00 PM. Admission to all Fighting Tiger regular season home contests is free to the general public.
TIGER NOTES: The Fighting Tigers are now 3-0 in the friendly confines of the Iorio Gymnasium this season. Cobleskill connected on 20 of 26 free throw attempts on the evening for a mark of 76.9%. The Fighting Tigers turned nine offensive rebounds into 15 points in the victory.
