FIGHTING TIGERS LEAVE CGCC TWINS SEEING DOUBLE BY 78-11 MARGIN
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball program posted one of the program’s most lopsided victories last night in Hudson, NY defeating the Twins of Columbia-Greene Community College by a score of 78-11 in Mountain Valley Conference action. The win raises the Fighting Tigers’ overall record to 8-3 on the year with a perfect 3-0 mark in conference action.
“The mindset tonight was that we needed to control things and that we were going to work on things that we’ve struggled with.” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “We wanted to control the boards and make sure that defensively we were in the right places. It was also important to get some other people chances to play extended minutes in order to raise their level of play. This game was really all about us and doing what we wanted to do in order to get better.”
Freshman center April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, led the attack with 22 points, 10 rebound and five steals while senior guard/forward Kim Stahl, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, added 17 points, six rebounds and three steals on the night. Senior power forward Kim McMillen, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, also played a major role in the victory returning to her home area with 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
The Fighting Tigers also received strong play from: senior Andrea Piedigrossi, Cortland, NY, Cortland High School, who scored nine points, grabbed five rebounds and passed out three assists, senior point guard Meghan Smida, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, who scored six points and passed out five assists, freshman center Abby Wilcox, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, who scored five points and took down eight rebounds on the evening. Senior guard Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, continued her strong play with a three point, three assist, eight steal outing while freshman guard Deanna Lamoureux, Schoharie, NY, Schoharie High School, had two points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in extended minutes.
Cobleskill is next in action on Thursday December 7th when they travel to Johnstown, NY to meet the Raiders of Fulton-Montgomery Community College for a Mountain Valley Conference game with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
TIGER NOTES: The 11 points allowed to Columbia-Greene on Tuesday evening represents the least points allowed by the Fighting Tigers to an opponent since the advent of divisional play in the NJCAA in 1991. The Cobleskill margin of victory of 67 points is also the largest since the advent of divisional play. The Fighting Tigers are currently on a five game winning streak.
