The SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball team posted an important 69-65 overtime road victory over NJCAA Region III Division III power Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY last night. The victory gives the Fighting Tigers a 12-1 overall record to date while the Lazers drop to 9-3 on the season.
The Fighting Tigers led at the half by a 37-26 margin before the Lazers dialed in from three-point range, finishing the contest with 11 triples on the evening, to take a 60-54 lead into the contest’s final minute. In the overtime, the Orange & Black outscored their hosts nine to five as freshman forward Marie O’Malley, Oneonta, NY, Oneonta High School, scored four points and Trista Thomas made three pressure packed free throws to secure the win.
“This was a big road win for us and could be very important in terms of potential post season seeding ramifications because we’ve now beat them head-to-head and they have been ranked as high as eighth in the nation,” said a jubilant Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “In the first half we executed extremely well and made some key shots and even in the second half when things weren’t necessarily going our way we maintained our poise and continued to play hard even when we were six points down with a minute left to play.”

Roosevelt High School, who scored 15 points and by freshman center Shelley Pierson, Watervliet, NY, Watervliet High School, who scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on the night.
