FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S B-BALL DOWNS RPI JUNIOR VARSITY 66-35
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball team snapped a two-game road losing streak on Saturday traveling to Troy, NY to defeat the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Junior Varsity by a score of 66-35. The victory moves the Fighting Tiger overall record to 13-5 on the season. Cobleskill had entered the contest ranked eighteenth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Right from the tip Cobleskill seized control of the action scoring the game’s first 10 points on their way to a 34-12 halftime advantage over their hosts. The Fighting Tigers used inside power basketball and transition to pound the Red Hawks in the paint as Cobleskill center Kim McMillen, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, scored a career high of 25 points to go with eight rebounds on the afternoon, freshman forward/center April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, added 10 points and nine rebounds to go with four steals while senior forward Andrea Piedigrossi, Cortland, NY, Cortland High School, also played a strong game for the Fighting Tigers with 12 points and seven rebounds in the contest.
Cobleskill also received all-round efforts from senior forward Kim Stahl, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, who scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds and from senior point guard Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, who scored two points, passed out four assists, grabbed two rebounds and made four steals for the Fighting Tigers.
“After a rough beginning to the week this was a good way to end,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “Our shooting was up to 50% from the floor as opposed to around 30% in our last two games while we shared the basketball extremely well and did a good job of pushing the tempo. Defensively we got our hands in the passing lanes tipping a number of passing attempts and did a decent job of rebounding. All-in-all this was a good opportunity to work on areas that we needed to work on and everyone received significant minutes. We used this as an opportunity to work on things and to improve from earlier in the week.”
Cobleskill will return to action on Monday January 29th when they host the Broncos of Delhi Tech at 7:00 PM.
TIGER NOTES: Center Kim McMillen leads the Fighting Tigers in both scoring and rebounding averaging 14.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Kim Stahl is currently ranked fifth nationally in free throw percentage having connected on 45 of 59 attempts for a 76.3% mark. The Fighting Tigers are currently scoring at a 60.1 points per game rate while allowing only 46.9 points per game to the opposition.
