FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN BURY CGCC TWINS 86-17 IN CONFERENCE PLAY
In the wake of one of the biggest snowstorms in recent upstate New York history, the SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball team closed out the home portion of their regular season on Friday night by burying the Twins of Columbia-Greene Community College under a blizzard of baskets 86-17 in Mountain Valley Conference play. The victory improves the Fighting Tigers’ overall record to 19-6 on the season with an 11-3 mark in league play.
“Going into this game we knew that we were going to be able to work on some things that should help us get better for the tournament,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “With them playing all zone defenses that we were able to work on our zone offense under game conditions. I thought we did a good job passing the ball and getting open shots against their zones. Defensively things went exactly the way we thought that it would go and I thought that our bench played much better tonight which hopefully we can sustain for our last three regular season games and into the post-season.”
Senior point guard Meghan Smida, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, turned in one of the best games of her college career scoring 17 points to go with nine assists, five rebounds and three steals while her backcourt mate senior guard Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, added six points, eight assists, three rebounds and four steals on the evening.
