The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that four members of the Fighting Tigers women’s basketball team have been selected to the All-Mountain Valley Conference for the 2006-07 season by the conference’s coaches. Senior center Kim McMillen, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, was named to the league’s First Team while senior forward Kim Stahl, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, and senior guard Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, were Second Team honorees and freshman forward/center April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, was named to the conference’s Third Team. On the year, Cobleskill posted the program’s third consecutive twenty-win season and made their third consecutive post-season tournament appearance after finishing 22-7 on the year and placing second in the MVC with a 13-3 league record.
Kim McMillen was the Fighting Tiger’s go-to player in the post this season averaging 14.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.8 steals per contest connecting on 166 of 328 attempts from the field for an impressive field goal percentage of 50.6% on the season. The Greenville High School alumnus was earlier selected to the First Team All-NJCAA All-Region III Division III Team by the region’s coaches.
Kim Stahl provided the Cobleskill offenses with timely outside offense averaging 12.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game connecting on a team high 56 three-point field goals on the season. The former Scotia-Glenville High School standout was also earlier named to the Third Team All-NJCAA All-Region III Division III Team by the region’s coaches.
Erinn O’Rourke brought versatility and strong defense to the Fighting Tiger line-up performing at all of the perimeter positions at one time or another this season. On the season the South Glens, NY native averaged 6.9 points, 3.9 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 3.6 steals per contest connecting on 83 of 195 field goal attempts for a percentage of 42.6 from the floor.
April Ackermann provided the Fighting Tigers with much needed additional help on the inside averaging 9.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game connecting on 107 of 232 shots on the season for a field goal percentage of 46.1%. The former Sullivan West High School also led the team in blocked shots with 17 on the season.
Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles had nothing but high praise for his Fighting Tiger standouts as the Cobleskill mentor spoke about his talented quartet.
“Kim McMillen was one of the top two players in our conference all year long and our success was built on the heart and determination that she showed throughout the season. Kim Stahl was a more complete player this season making herself a better defender and rebounder by improving her strength and conditioning in the off-season. I was extremely pleased that Erinn O’Rourke was selected as she did all of the little things that don’t always get a lot of attention because they don’t show up in the box score and April Ackermann did a great job of blending in with a senior laden team and we expect big things from her down the road.”
The selection of four Fighting Tiger players to the All-Mountain Valley Conference Team in a single season is a new high for the Cobleskill program. During Head Coach Josh Suttles tenure at the helm the program has posted an 81-31 overall record, 72.3 % winning percentage, recorded three consecutive twenty-win seasons producing three consecutive NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament appearances. Under Suttles’ direction Fighting Tiger players have individually earned: nine All-Mountain Valley Conference Team selections, six NJCAA All-Region III Division III Team awards, three NJCAA Academic All-American honors and two NJCAA Division III All-American selections.
