SUNY COBLESKILL ANNOUNCES WOMEN’S BASKETBALL NJCAA NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT SIGNEES
The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School women’s basketball standout; Third Team All-Colonial Council honoree Jessica Byerwalters, has signed National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Letters of Intent to compete for the Fighting Tigers beginning in the fall of 2007. The talented swing-player was the leading scorer for the Indians who posted a 3-17 record this past season.
“Jessica is going to be a great addition to our program. We were looking for someone with multiple skill-sets and at 5’10” she is a long and rangy player who can operate at either the small forward or off-guard for us,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “Offensively she has shooting range out to 18 or 19 feet and she is tall and strong enough to guard a small forward; yet she possesses the quickness and agility, to defend a shooting or point guard.”
This past season the versatile swing-player averaged 12.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in 20 appearances this season highlighted by season high 21 point outburst in a 54-38 loss to Colonie Conference and Section II Champions Watervliet High School on February 2nd.
This season SUNY Cobleskill posted a 22-7 overall record advancing to the Quarterfinals of the 2007 NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament. During Head Coach Josh Suttles tenure at the helm; the program has posted: an 81-31 overall record, 72.3 % winning percentage, recorded three consecutive twenty-win seasons while making three consecutive NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament appearances. During this time Fighting Tiger players have individually earned: nine All-Mountain Valley Conference Team selections, six NJCAA All-Region III Division III Team awards, three NJCAA Academic All-American honors and two NJCAA Division III All-American awards.
