FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN DOWN ACC 67-33 TO OPEN SECOND SEMESTER
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s basketball team took to the road last night to open the second semester portion of their schedule traveling to Glens Falls, NY, to dismantle the Timberwolves of Adirondack Community College by a 67-33 margin in Mountain Valley Conference action. The victory pushes the Fighting Tigers overall record to 14-1 on the season with a perfect 4-0 mark in league play. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked ninth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Senior forward April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, scored a season high18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead an extremely balanced Fighting Tiger attack. Freshman guard/forward Jessica Byerwalters, Coeymans Hollow, NY, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, scored eight points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked three shots, passed out two assists and made two steals on the night while freshman guard/forward Jessica Lane, Howes Cave, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, added seven points and 10 rebounds.
The Fighting Tigers also received strong efforts from: freshman guard Katie Greene, Port Crane, NY, Harpursville High School, with nine points, senior guard Trista Thomas, Brooklyn, NY, Erasmus Hall High School, with eight points and nine rebounds and freshman point guard Nichole Garzon, Bayside, NY, Benjamin Cardozo High School, with seven points, four rebounds and four steals. Senior guard Danielle Lum, McDonough, NY, Cincinnatus High School, also was a contributor for Cobleskill with six points on the night and provided strong perimeter defense during extended minutes.
“Coming back from a long lay-off it was good to get back on the court and being it was our first game back after over a month off; I think that our legs and stamina were not all there yet,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Josh Suttles. “We went with a smaller quicker line-up which caused them to struggle with our speed and gave us more defensive pressure to attack them with.”
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Tuesday January 22nd when they travel to Utica, NY to meet the nation’s number ten ranked team the Hawks of Mohawk Valley Community College for a Mountain Valley Conference game with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM. The Hawks and Fighting Tigers are currently tied for first place in the conference with unbeaten records in league play.
