FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO MVCC 57-49 IN MOUNTAIN VALLEY CONFERENCE ACTION
In a battle of nationally ranked junior college women’s basketball program’s vying for first place in the Mountain Valley Conference; the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers dropped a 57-49 decision to Mohawk Valley Community College, on the Hawks’ home floor in Utica, NY last night. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 14-2 overall on the season with a 3-1 mark in conference play while the Hawks improve to 14-4 overall on the season with a perfect 6-0 mark versus league competition. Cobleskill had entered the game ranked ninth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll while Mohawk Valley had entered the contest ranked tenth nationally.
Freshman center Shelley Pierson, Watervliet, NY, Watervliet High School, led the Orange & Black in scoring with 13 points while senior forward April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School added 11 points and nine rebounds on the evening.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Thursday January 24th when they host the Generals of Herkimer Community College in conference action with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
