FIGHTING TIGER WOMEN SHRED ADIRONDACK 88-43 IN MVC PLAY
The SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers women’s basketball program made a meal out of the visiting Adirondack Community College Timberwolves on Saturday shredding the visitor’s by a score of 88-43 in Mountain Valley Conference action. The victory pushes Cobleskill’s overall record to 19-4 on the season with a 9-3 mark versus conference opponents. The win was also Cobleskill Head Coach Josh Suttles 100th at the helm of the Fighting Tiger program as the Orange & Black have posted a 100-35 mark to date during his tenure.
“As to the 100th win, it’s really a tribute to the hard work of our staff and to the caliber of players that have bought into our program. As to winning the game, I really thought that we played our most complete game of the season today as we finally were able to put together a focused effort on both ends of the court. Normally when we score a lot of points, we have a tendency to give up a lot of points; so today was an excellent all around effort, on our part,” said coach Suttles. “ I also thought that our transition game was excellent today providing us with numerous quality scoring opportunities.”
Freshman guard/forward Jessica Byerwalters, Coeymans Hollow, NY, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, led the assault on the visitors with a 16 point/eight rebound performance while freshman center Shelley Pierson, Watervliet, NY, Watervliet High School, was also a major stat sheet filler in the contest with 13 points, eight rebounds, five steals, three blocked shots and three assists. Senior forward April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, contributed in the contest with 14 points to go with six rebounds and freshman forward Sharee Daniels, Poughkeepsie, NY, F.D. Roosevelt High School, added 13 points and four assists on the day.
Cobleskill also received a strong efforts from freshman guard Laura Tisinger, Gloversville, NY, Gloversville High School, with nine points and three assists and from senior point guard Trista Thomas, Brooklyn, NY, Erasmus Hall High School, who also scored nine points to go with three assists.
The Fighting Tigers will next take to the floor on Saturday February 16th when they host Holyoke Community College beginning at 1:00 PM. Cobleskill will then play host to Niagara Community College on Sunday February 17th with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 PM.
