O’MALLEY NAMED FIGHTING TIGER ATHLETE-OF-THE-WEEK

The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that freshman Marie O’Malley, Oneonta, NY, Oneonta High School, a member of the women’s basketball program has been named the athletic program’s Fighting Tiger Athlete-of-the-Week.

The talented freshman forward scored the game winning basket in the team’s 58-52 home victory over SUNY Delhi on Tuesday night nailing a three-point field goal with 24.6 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Orange & Black a 53-52 lead and capping a 14 point Fighting Tiger comeback. The Oneonta High School alumnus then tallied 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the team’s 78-44 home victory over Hudson Valley Community College on Thursday night as the Fighting Tigers equaled the program record for most wins in a single-season finishing the year with a 24-4 overall record.

The Fighting Tigers will next compete at the 2008 NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Tournament to be hosted by Tompkins-Cortland Community College in Dryden, NY beginning on Friday February 29th continuing through Sunday March 2nd. Tournament pairing and game assignments will be announced later this week.
